Fighting in ice hockey
My rationalization for fighting in ice hockey has always been that none of the players realize the implications of bolting around on ice skates within a confined space, so inevitable high-speed collisions always end up in fisticuffs. This Wikipedia page offers more convoluted explanations (like so-called “blue lines” that keep puck handlers in close proximity) that I think all essentially lead back to my theory .
Not to be a Johnny Makepeace or anything, but if I played in the NHL and got called out by another player for a fight, I would simply throw up my arms in exasperation and say, “We’re playing SPORTS on SKATES.”
